On the 4.6L engine. The starter solenoid is located on the passenger's side firewall. Next to the hood hinge. Just under the plastic hard shell cover. It's a black cover on the firewall. Pull cover off and you will see the solenoid relay switch.

Open the hood, and standing on the drivers side of the car, look down on the side of the engine. (through all the hoses.) You will see the solenoid, and then under that is where the starter is. It is a tough job to get to it if you do not know what you are doing.
