If you're referring to a "coil on plug" type design, I know 5th Generation Civics didn't use this. The coil/ignitor is internal in the distributor. As far as testing THESE, there are SEVERAL online manuals available for FREE downloading. Hope this helps...
They don't have distributor caps they have coil packs. Some coil packs are labeled like 1-3 2-4

If your engine has coil packs it will have one for each cyclinder. There are still a few engines that use just one coil but most use coil packs these days.

there are coil packs on the 98 passports. to get to the spark plugs you have to take the coil packs off they are square plastic and have 2 screws or little hex drive bolts one on each side you must remove those screws and remove the coil packs but be careful not too break the plug socket that sticks down from the coil pack into the valve cover and dont over torque the screws when you put them back I believe they are 8mm but if not 8 then 10
im not sure but if you follow the spark plug wires they will take you to the coil packs

Thee is no distributor on vehicles with coil over plug packs
there is no need to change the coil packs just to do routine maintanence
