Certain honours vary from country to country, it would also depend on the field of endeavour in question. Perhaps the highest the highest honour internationally for academic achievement would be the Nobel prizes. A country may have honours for good or courageous deeds, civilian and military, which would vary. The George and Victoria Crosses in the UK or the Medal of Honor in the US for instance. Some countries have an aristocratic society, notably the UK, where a person may be awarded peerages, at different levels, for deeds done. There is no single honour that can be considered the greatest or highest that is recognised universally.
