Alexander the great had three reasons he was able to build an empire. First off, he was a tactical genius. He could look at any battle and know the perfect strategy. He also had the unfaltering loyalty of his men, they followed him from Southern Macedonia to India. The final and most import thing he had was the Greek phalanx. A formation made by row upon row of heavy infantry wielding twenty-foot spears. The first couple ranks held shorter spears and shields while the other ranks (sometimes up to fifteen) had the long spears. The ability to attack from several rows back made this formation fearsome against the lightly armored inhabitants of the Middle East and Asia.
Brilliant non-linear military tactics, an amazing personality, lots of luck, and the degradation of the Persian empire which made it easy to conquer. To be clear, Alexander didn't 'build' a large empire, he replace the old rulers via military conquest, and slowly but surely lost the entire empire over time. He really had very little empire 'building' skills, was just good at leading people in war. Because he died young its hard to know how good he could have become though.
Alexander conquered it and made it his own.
Sparta's reason is that they failed for military reasons and they went to war with Athens. Athen's reason is that they were conquered by the Roman Empire.
The Persian empire was not only the most powerful, but the most advanced. No empire, including the greek, could truly defeat it. With out Persian technology modern civilization would be way behind (in all aspects), the reason they were the best was because they created peace with war, not just savage killing, but they expanded rapidly.
The reason why the triangular trade was so important is beacause of what happend during the time of what was going on.
Alexander the great was able to build such a large and expansive empire because of his warfare strategy. Alexander the Great was able to defeat any enemy that crossed his path, which allowed him to conquer all of the countries he entered and add them to his empire.
The most important reason was the arrival of the British. Already succession problems were resulting in the collapse of the huge empire. There was a crack in the Mughal Empire, and it was deepened by the arrival of the British as they took ultimate control, colonized India, and made their own laws and rules, finishing Mughal culture for good.

This is true that the Mughals were pleasure seeking but this was not the main reason for their decline. The weakening of the army plus the attacks from the Persians are the main reasons for their decline.
