I believe the rear Expansion Valve may need replaced. If it has failed the rear evaporator will not cool as the freon will not flow. These Tahoes have an orfice up front and an expansion valve in the rear (inside the rear HVAC unit under the passenger quarter trim). The coolant lines and the A/C lines have to be undone to remove the HVAC system from the vehicle to replace the Expansion Valve. It's about 650 at the dealer (or you can get the valve for under 100 from an auto parts store if you think you can do the job yourself).
the accuator, located in the rear passenger side is bad. the controls in front when turned go to an accuator in the rear there are two of them one for hot/cold and one for the vents.
The front expansion valve is clogged.
Your front blower motor has gone out. There is a front and a rear blower motor.
There is a secondary condensor in the rear of the vehicle that works off of the primary. If the AC in the rear is working and not the front, it could possibly be the air handler or the blower up front. Does the front blow air? If so is it ambient, hot, or a little cool? Incorrect: The 1999 Tahoe DOES NOT have a secondary condensor the only thing it may have in the rear is a heater core IF it is supplied with rear heat, if you are getting cold air in back and not the front usually means you are low on freon.
replace front heater corefront and rear have independent heater cores
I have a 98 with rear ac. I had to replace a blower $165 from a local mechanic.
Try replacing the temperature control switch for the rear control cluster. Hope that that's the fix. Less than $20.
heat works in back not in front front blows hot for a few mins then cold
Could be a faulty fan motor and/or switch.
That is a vent tube, It let's the pressure out of the differential so it don't blow the grease seals out.
this is normal due to the old mold build up in the evaparator corethe fan runs for a short period to dry evaparator core so it will not mold & mildew and cause your Tahoe to smell like a gym bag
I have the same problem in a 1999 K2500 with the LT package. Any ideas?
