A revival of this kind has nothing to do with conscious planing, Europe did not see it's self as a entity that had lost anything to revive. the only connecting chord was that the Christian church had been established before the collapse of the previous authority, the Roman Empire, The Renaissance came with the development of new structures of authority that were reasonably durable and allowed for permanent trade and intellectual pursuits to be established. much of the knowledge in the Renaissance was the knowledge preserved by the church from the earlier civilisations. The Europeans simply fell into the trap of having developed their own system of Law and Order, and as a result trade, science, education, and other intellectual pursuits followed.
