other than that check the motor specs out in hte books for Dodge since they use mostly Mitsubishi motors anymore....
cant remember which model but one of the dodge cars in 1995 used the same motors in it as the eclipse but didnt produce quite the same torque

No the engine in the 98 mitsubishi eclipse spyder gs is a mitsubishi 4g64 while the engine in the 96 rs is a chrysler 420a engine.
The gap is .028 to .031

Yes it can. I own a 95 eclipse and have put a 97 front bumper on it. It is slightly lower to the ground but fits great! it wont fit my eclipse and its a 95
