Check for a blown fuse or faulty VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). Also check for codes.
check the netural safety switch on the transmission valve body. only if auto trans
are you sure it is transmission and not your diff both can do this which ever one it is tho needs to be rebuilt or replaced
I read in another forum that it might be the brakelight switch that is making the shift lock, lock up.
Check your clutch fluid level or your automatic transmission fluid level.
Since no year was specified I can only guess it is the Transmission Lock. The transmission has a lock-out that stops taking the transmission from going out of Park unless the Brake is applied. BUT if there is a need to put the car in Neutral MANUALLY, say because of a complete electrical failure, a MANUAL RELEASE is provided on the Automatic Shifter Housing to Manually activate and remove it from park. That is what you are calling a 'switch'.
The transmission computer has detected a malfunction and set a code. It will lock into second gear until the fault is repaired. You will need to have the system checked with a scan tool. The transmission computer has detected a malfunction and set a code. It will lock into second gear until the fault is repaired. If the Aerostar is not set for auto lock when the vehicle is put into gear, check the door lock, switch. Also check the lock relay and wiring for a possible short.
his is a trick question.. there is no "park" with a manual transmission.. either it's in gear, or it's in neutral.
I had the same problem with my 96 Grand Voyager. When the transmission has a problem it will lock in first gear as not to leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. There are electronics in the transmission and sensors that have detected a problem. I hate to say this but the transmission has to be rebuilt or changed.
An automatic transmission can lock in a Honda for several reasons. The most common problem is with the shift solenoids. These parts allow the transmission to shift and when one is malfunctioning the gearbox may not go into gear.
The transmission computer defaults to second gear when it detects a fault and sets a trouble code
Transmission lock pin either "Park" auto, or "reverse std. not aligned properly due to wear?
