Check the 1995 626 Transmission Fluid for a burnt smell. Check in front of the radiator, and insure that the transmission cooler fins are clean. Have a computer code check performed to see if any internal transmission codes show up.

Mazda meant the transmission to be filled from a plug in the side of the transmission which is a real pain. Many Mazda owners remove the shifter and just pour it in. There is a second plug on the driver side of the transmission with a square head on it. Remove this plug and fill the transmission until fluid starts to drip from the hole, then it should be full.
