WHY do you need to avoid nicotine and caffeine for 24 hours before an EEG AND what problems will arise if you do not avoid nicotine during that time?
Because both nicotine and caffeine are stimulants - they would give a false reading on an EEG machine. Abstaining from smoking and drinking coffee for 24 hours before the test, would give a more accurate trace.
No. Caffeine is a stimulate or a drug and for some people, taking in too much can work against your heart -- especially during exercise. It can make your heart race or cause you to feel palpitations. If you take in caffeine, do so in moderation. For example, 1 - 2 cups of coffee are within the limits of normal. Drink 2 - 3 energy drinks with high levels of caffeine before and during exercise may cause problems.
What is the condition called with the problems to the fetus due to the mother smoking during pregnancy?
Should a male decrease his caffeine intake during the woman's fertile time if they are trying to get pregnant?
What should a parent do about caffeine being giving to small children during the day when they are in school?
It is not safe to smoke while you're wearing a nicotine patch. If you smoke too much with the patch on, you can give yourself nicotine poisoning, which can be fatal. However, as long as you are relatively young, with a healthy heart, an occasional cigarette with the patch on will probably not hurt you. Before I switched to electronic cigarettes, I was wearing the patch at work every day. On my lunch break, I would smoke with the patch on. A couple of cigarettes during my lunch hour gave me no problems, but if I chain-smoked more than 2 in a row, my heart would start beating too fast and hard, and felt like it was cramping up.
It is generally not a good idea to do anything before getting a piercing. Perscriptions, alcohol, drugs, even caffeine is not recommended before getting pierced. Piercings cause blood sugar levels to drop and any "drug" even caffeine can have a negative effect on the body during piercing. Even asprin, which can cause excess bleeding. If its not an oral piercing doing it after is a better idea.
