Riel is both a hero and a traitor.
To Canada Riel is a traitor, a criminal, a murderous villain. Riel stood up for the rights of those who lived in and had rightful claim to, lands Canada bought from the Hudson Bay Company. Lands Canada wanted everyone to think of as empty of people.
To many in the lands colonised by Canada Riel is a hero for standing up against Canada, standing up for the rights of the little guy against a violent colonizer.
To many in Quebec he is a hero because he was French and stood up to an English Canada, an Ontario Canada.
Among the Métis, and in Québec, Louis Riel was a hero. In English Canada, especially among Orangemen, Riel was the Devil personified.
Louis Riel was a hero, not a villain.
Louis Riel was a hero because he fought for his beliefs and what he thought was right. He was also a leader of the Metis and Red River territory. He had also formed a Metis government. He showed that the Metis can stand on there own
Louis Riel's father. a well-respected leader in the Métis community, was also named Louis Riel.
Louis Riel was a Canadian hero, without Louis Riel many rights would still be denied to metis and aboriginal citizens. Louis Riel founded the Canadian province of Manitoba. He was a Metis - that is, he was half European half Aboriginal - and he led a resistance on behalf of the rights being denied to Metis in Manitoba. Which led to equality throughout Manitoba, mobility rights for all. He was convicted of treason and was executed in 1885. His first attempt in 1870 was a abject failure, and he fled to the USA, to Minnesota, where he woked as a Catholic school teacher. In 1885, he tried it again, and eventually he was tried and hung as a traitor. Louis Riel attempted to address these issues in a political manor but was ignored multiple times and using force was the only way to achieve the rights that were being denied to all Metis.
because he was a traitor
hero
He was known as a hero to the metis because he stood up for them and there rights. He was known as a traitor to the government because he went against them by helping the Metis
it depends on your perspective. if you're on the English side, then Louis riel was a pest. if you're on the french side, then Louis riel was a great hero who defended their rights.

Louis Riel was a Métis leader who led the Red River and North-West Rebellions in Canada. He fought for Métis rights and land rights, and his actions contributed to the shaping of the Canadian Confederation and the recognition of Métis rights and identity. Riel's legacy continues to be controversial, with some viewing him as a hero and others as a traitor.

Louis Riel's daughter's name was Jean-Louis Riel.
Although Louis Riel was convicted of High Treason, in the opinion of many Canadians he was definitely not a traitor. He led a movement attempting to assert the rights of the people of mixed European and aboriginal descent in what is now the province of Manitoba against the incursions of the Canadian government. This resulted in some battles with Canadian military and police personnel, and some deaths. However, it cannot be clearly stated that Riel's actions were unjustifiable, making him a traitor.
