He was an educated businessman, and while he seems to have been proud of his faith, he did not try to impose it on his step-son. In fact, Mr. Obama attended a Catholic school while in Indonesia, and then a public school which was run by moderate Muslims like his dad. Mr. Obama recalled in his writings that his step-dad was a very reasonable and kind person, and encouraged his step-son to find his own path.
