Yes, John Adams was a member of the Sons of Liberty. The mini-series on HBO depicts John as being outside of Sam Adams' leadership and influence in the group. However, John Adams was indeed an active member of the Sons of Liberty.

Paul Revere
John Hancock was a Sons of Liberty member, a Freemason, and signed the Declaration of Independence. Sons of Liberty where a group of Bostonions who opposed British rule and taxes. They organized the Boston Tea Party. Crispus Attucks, the first dead in the Boston Massacre, was a sons of liberty member. Freemasons ideas on America are unknown, but, many of the early presidents, right up to Abe Lincoln, were freemasons.
