The last pope will be the False Prophet not the Anti Christ.

You're only going to get subjective s to this one. My subjective is that the first Pope represented the Anti-Christ. The Roman Church was the Anti-Christ.

Prophetically speaking... nowhere in The Bible will you find an end time person called "THE Antichrist."

Only John uses the term "antichrist" in the first two of his three numbered letters near the end of the Bible's books. He points out that "antichrist" is a prevailing "attitude" or "spirit" in the world that was extant even as he wrote his inspired words.

"...even now are there many antichrists..." (I John 2:18).

Generally speaking... "antichrist" is the normal way man lives... Adam and Eve, having chosen Satan, "that old serpent," to worship and obey over Christ [the Creator God of the Old Testament - John 1:3] from the beginning.

But, prophetically... the Bible says that "two men" shall "rise from the sea" of humanity in the last days: the "Beast" and the "False Prophet." These both shall be lauded and praised by the nations... and worshiped as gods... and seen as "saviors."

The world is even now being plunged into perilous times as nearly all the nations on earth, and fanatical militant religious groups, are arming themselves with the most devastating and destructive weaponry ever invented by man, that used to be limited to only a few powerful of nations who possessed a modicum of fear and respect for that power.

When the economic and "civilized" world as we know it finally collapses... the Beast and False Prophet shall rise to public view... and appear to "save" the suffering and terrified nations. And they shall be worshiped as gods.

Idol worship is a sin [2nd Commandment]. And that's "anti-Christ."

"...He [the False Prophet; "another Beast" - Rev.13:11: who "...had two horns like a lamb...", appears 'Christ-like'... appears to be 'Christian'... but "...spake as a Dragon...", Satan] exerciseth all the power of the first Beast before him, and CAUSETH THE EARTH and THEM WHICH DWELL THEREIN TO WORSHIP THE FIRST BEAST... he doeth great wonders... and deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had the power to do IN THE SIGHT OF THE BEAST; saying... that they should make an image to the Beast..." (Rev.13:12-14).

That is indeed "anti-Christian"... but still... the Bible doesn't call any one person "THE Antichrist."

The Beast shall be a powerful, charismatic political figure and military leader of the government [Beast] that shall arise on earth in the last days of man's rule on earth. And: "...the Dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority." (Rev.13:2)

The "other" Beast... the False Prophet... shall be a powerful and charismatic Christian-appearing "religious leader" who will be able to perform lying wonders and miracles WHENEVER HE STANDS IN THE PRESENCE OF THE BEAST, which the world will fall for... as it does even today when it sees "Mary in a piece of burnt toast," or Jesus in a piece of stained cloth [neither of whom anyone knows what they looked like]... or idols bleeding and sweating!

Is the pope one of these two "anti-Christ" leaders to come?

Well... he is the most powerful religious figure in the world today with strong political ties and influence. And the organization he represents does have a penchant to bow to idols [graven images and statuary]. And the world does call him "God" [Holy Father] to this very day, without batting an eyelash.

So, if he should one day soon begin working miracles and wonders... he looks to be an extremely excellent candidate to become the "False Prophet."

The world has to wait and see who turns out to be whom, however. We all have to wait... and watch the prophecies of the Bible as they develop and are fulfilled:

"...Watch ye therefore, and PRAY ALWAYS, that ye may be found worthy to escape ALL THESE THINGS THAT SHALL COME TO PASS, and to stand before the Son of Man." (Luke 21:36)

Whoever these future idolized and worshiped "anti-Christian" men shall ultimately be... upon Jesus' return, they will be the first two with whom He will deal:

"...the Beast was taken, and with him the False Prophet that wrought miracles before him... These both were cast alive into a Lake of Fire burning with brimstone..." (Rev.19:20).

(Added) According to Catholic and the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches, the bible predicts multiple anti-christs throughout time. A few are specifically mentioned. One of the most powerful and evilest is called the false prophet. In Orthodoxy and to some degree the Catholic teachings this false profit has come and is identified as James King of England.

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Pope is the Vicar of Jesus Christ, and certainly not the antichrist. Another view

It is currently fashionable within certain circles to try to identify individual leaders with the unidentified Antichrist. However, within the Bible, this person is never identified. The book of Daniel never identifies the "man of perdition", which turned out to be the successors of Alexander the great.

It is never a good idea to try to assign certain characteristics to a current personage because circumstances change. Only in hindsight can we correctly identify a person by prophecy. Unless, of course, that person is actually named...which the Antichrist is not.

The antichrist can be anybody, and yes it is possible that the antichrist can be the pope himself.

.

Catholic AnswerAnyone at all familiar with the papacy and its history for the past two thousand years knows that there is no chance that Antichrist will be the pope. This was a common "aberrations of 16th-century religious warfare." (in other words, protestant Propaganda). As for the prophecy of St. Malachy, a monk who supposedly visited Rome in 1139 A.D. and left a list of popes until "the end", well, there are several problems with that whole deal: first of all, Our Blessed Lord says that no one will know the end, not even Himself; and who are we going to believe-Jesus Christ himself, or some little known monk from the twelve century. Secondly, if St. Malachy had a genuine revelation and left a genuine prophecy, there is one little problem with that scenario, the "last Pope" is not listed as following the next to the last one listed, in other words, St. Malachy doesn't tell us how many popes may be in the interval until the end. Third, it would be private revelation, and everyone knows that revelation closed with the death of the last apostle, and we shouldn't be putting stock in private revelation at all. Finally, we don't even know if the prophecy is genuine as it was supposedly written in 1139 A.D. but never saw the light of day until 400 years later. Here is a quote from the Catholic Encyclopedia:

They were first published by Arnold de Wyon, and ever since there has been much discussion as to whether they are genuine predictions of St. Malachy or forgeries. The silence of 400 years on the part of so many learned authors who had written about the popes, and the silence of St. Bernard especially, who wrote the "Life of St. Malachy", is a strong argument against their authenticity...

from A Catholic Dictionary, edited by Donald Attwater, Second edition, revised 1957

ANTICHRIST. A designation of Christ's chief antagonist, who will precede his second coming and the end of the world, and whose activity will be directly connected with a widespread apostasy from the Christian faith. He will be an individual human personality, marked by utter lawlessness, self-deification, hatred of Christian truth, and rivalry with Christ through mock-miracles. He will cause the fall of many, but be destroyed by Christ. Scripture authority for his nature and work is found in 1 John ii, 18, 22; iv, 3; 2 John 7; and 2 Thess. Ii: cf. Matt. Xxiv, 5, 11, 24, and especially Apoc. Xiii, 5ff. Several Old Testament texts also are regarded as prophetic of Antichrist: Isa. Xi, 4; Jer. Viii, 16; Ezek., xxxviii and xxxix; Dan. Vii, 21. Jewish and Christian literature has by guess and inference enlarged on the scriptural portrait, sometimes with plausibility, sometimes with extravagance, the Jews, of course, only thinking of some great foe of Israel before the coming of the Messianic kingdom. Catholic exegesis does not allow that Antichrist be regarded as the mere symbol or embodiment of the anti-Christian spirit, but insists on the reality of his personality. Connection of Antichrist with the papacy belongs to the aberrations of 16th-century religious warfare.

Is it true that the pope is anti Christ?

The Pope is certainly not the Anti Christ. This designation is given to all who preach against there being a Christ when they know that Christ does exist. Remember this does not include those who have never heard of Christ and preach against His existence. One must know for a surety that Christ exists and preaches contrary to that fact. NO! The anti-Christ will be a man who brokers a peace with Israel that is supposed to last 7 years, but only lasts 3 1/2 years. We do not KNOW who that is at this time.
