Yes, Nation of Islam is racist. Nation of Islam (abbreviated NOI) is a political racist organization that calls for the superiority of the black man. It is quite different than Islam or the Islamic religion per Quran revelation to prophet Muhammad ( PBUH).

Nation of Islam Organization should not be confused with the Islamic nation of people who are believing in the true Islam per Quran revelation to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and witnessing that no God except one and only one God and that Muhammad is his prophet and messenger.

Actually, there is a huge difference between main stream Muslims and Nation of Islam (NOI) organization. The main beliefs of the NOI and how different than Islam per Quran revelation to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) are as follow:

  • The NOI believe that the founder of the Nation of Islam (NOI), Wallace Fard Muhammad, is Allah (God) on earth. This goes against the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who said that Allah is unseen.
  • The NOI believe that Black people are superior to Whites, and therefore do not accept whites into the Nation of Islam. Sunni and Shi'a Islam teaches us that all races are equal, and any person of any race can convert into Islam.
  • The NOI (Nation of Islam) organization believes that Elijah Muhammad, a leader of the NOI, was a prophet. The Qur'an tells us that Muhammad was the last prophet sent to mankind.

Nation of Islam is an organization whose followers are quite different than the main stream of Muslims.

Islam, per Quran revelation to prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is not racist and is against racism.

However, Nation od Islam (NOI) followers are racist. They are not Muslims per Quran and prophet Muhammad teachings.

Why might people think the Nation of Islam was racist?

Many people confuse the Nation of Islam with Islam, which is incorrect. The Nation of Islam is a specific African-American religion founded by Wallace Fard Muhammad. While Islam is not a racist religion, i.e. it does not discriminate on the basis of race, the Nation of Islam is a racist religion, holding Blacks to be a Superior Race and Whites and Jews to be Inferior Races. It makes sense that when the leadership of a religion makes openly racist statements that the religion is perceived as racist. For example, Wallace Fard Muhammad would preach that the original humans were all black until an evil scientist Yakub created "white devil children" on the island of Patmos and proceeded to kill all Blacks until the White Devils were in power. Before Malcolm X left the Nation of Islam to become a Sunni Muslim, he said: "Thoughtful white people know they are inferior to Black people. Even [Senator] Eastland knows it. Anyone who has studied the genetic phase of biology knows that white is considered recessive and black is considered dominant." On the charges of Anti-Semitism, these come from absurd claims that the Jews were overwhelmingly responsible for African enslavement and that Hitler was a great man for murdering Jews in the Holocaust.
