Who first established a national banking system as treasury secretary?

Hamilton. He actually did some very illegal things while in office. The men who fought the revolution were promised land as part of the compensation for fighting. After, the war they were given a grant on paper stating the land was given them. Hamilton went to these men and bought the grants from them for less than they were worth. He also reasoned that the more people owed the government the more they want to see it survive.

How did the federalists try to convence the public to ratify the Constitution?

Alexander Hamilton was the Father of the Federalist Papers. He conceived of the idea a month after the Constitutional Convention had approved the US Constitution on September 17, 1787. He finished the first while traveling down the Hudson River from Albany to NYC. He invited William Duer and Gouverneur Morris but Duer wasn't up to the task and Morris was too busy. Then Hamilton got John Jay and James Madison to join his as coauthors. To find out more, got to the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society and look at their September newsletter. Or to All Things Hamilton and find Hamilton's Greatest Hits.

Alexander Hamilton's life's greatest accomplishment?

I believe that Alexander Hamilton's greatest accomplishment is more of an opinionative statement. This man did so many honorable things and said so many good words to live by, that he should be credited in all things not just one simple accomplishment.

Compare and contrast the political ideology of Thomas Jefferson vs Alexander Hamilton anti federalist federalist?

Thomas Jefferson v Alexander Hamilton - were essentially good friends to begin with. Jefferson was for a very weak central government and power mostly in the states. Hamilton, however, was for a strong central government, evidenced by his financial policies, such as assumption. Jefferson was suspicious of the governors, believing that they would succumb to avarice in office; Hamilton suspicious of the governed, believing that the masses would not be able to sustain democracy and keep the government in order. In addition, Jefferson was a congenial optimist and saw things through a rose colored prism, Hamilton was distrustful to a fault (most likely from his childhood) and saw things through a dark prism. Finally, Jefferson favored relations with France, Hamilton, Britain. Anti Federalist v Federalist - the majority of anti-Federalists either thought the Articles were fine, or that they needed a Bill of Rights. Like Jefferson, many AFs believed that too much power was in the hands of the government, that the government would become greedy, and that, to be honest, the Articles were only going to be revised, not overhauled. Federalists, for the most part, believed the exact opposite. However, many people only supported ratification with a promise that Bill of Rights would be enacted.

How did political parties start?

Political parties started with Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Both men had totally opposite views on most things(French Revolution, National Bank, XYZ Affair), causing Jefferson to start his on party, the democratic-Republicans, believing it to be for the best. That left the Federalists, who sided with Alexander Hamilton.

Why did Alexander Hamilton fight arron burr?

Burr was veary angry at Hamilton. Burr was a Democratic/Republican and Hamilton was a Federalist. This meant they already had many differences. Also, Hamilton was saying bad things about Burr, illegally, and it was posted in the news paper. This caused a duel between them both.

Which of the following leaders was a prominent federalist?

There were 2 Federalist parties. The first Federalists were people at the Constitutional Convention who supported ratification. You could say the main leaders of that party were James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, who wrote the majority of the Federalist Papers, which were created to get the Constitution ratified in New York, and also Virginia. The second Federalist party actually was a political party. It was created in support of Alexander Hamilton, who George Washington appointed Secretary of the Treasury, and his economic policies (Report on the Public Credit, Report on the National Bank, and Report on Manufactures). Later the Federalists adopted more policies other than the economic ones. They had 3 main leaders: 1. Alexander Hamilton, who created the party because of his economic policies. The Federalists never nominated him for president, because to do so meant taking advantage of a constitutional loophole that would have infuriated Republicans (Hamilton was not from the colonies, but the West Indies). He, however, wouldn't have wanted it, and he would have made a terrible president. And he knew it. Even so, he controlled things from the sidelines and quietly sabotaged the people who he didn't think were fit for presidency, namely John Adams. When he died in 1804, the Federalist party slowly started to decline because its most ardent supporter, from every turn, was dead. 2. John Adams, the only Federalist president. He led the moderate faction of the party, distancing himself from the more ardent supporters and angling himself as a more moderate Federalist, certainly not "dangerous" or an "intriguer", which is what people thought Hamilton to be. In leading the moderate faction (and his mutual hatred with Hamilton), the Federalist party began to split. It didn't help that Hamilton, who despised John Adams as much as Adams despised him, wrote a 54 page essay in the election of 1800 denouncing Adams, who was from his own party. 3. John Marshall, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for 34 years. After John Adams' leave from public office and Alexander Hamilton's untimely death, he became the sole Federalist in public office, and when he ruled in Supreme Court rulings, a lot of his ideas were drawn from the policies of the Federalist party.
