The Christmas Truce began when enlisted men spontaneously initiated it. It was generally less approved of by officers and particularly the high command on each side which took a dim view of it. You can learn more here:
The original truce happened between the German and English front in Belgium, Ypres. Then it happened again in Ypres 1915(First one 1914) and in and around Champagne, France. Hope this Helps.
