Theodore Roosevelt wanted to remove the words, "In God Trust" from our currency during his Presidency. This (from the book, "Colonel Roosevelt" by Edmund Morris):" As President, he had tried to remove the phrase, "In God We Trust," from the National coinage."

President Roosevelt was inspired by the Golden Rule, nature, and although was brought up with religion (taught Sunday school), changed churches, was a pragmatist and did not have his family's fervor for church or an omnicient entity. He had a respect for other religions, including Islam. He received a copy of the Qu'ran from Al-Azhar Mosque, the oldest religious academy in the world. He was the first "infidel" to be presented the Qu'ran, by Al-Azhar.
