Here are some tips that may help:
- Be sure that you know what you believe in, and why you believe in it. If possible, identify some evidence to support your convictions, from your own life or from things that you have heard about or read about. This is your 'ammunition'.
- Spend time with people who share your beliefs, and talk things over with them. This will strengthen your self-confidence.
- Stay calm if your convictions are challenged. Don't get drawn into an argument (an argument is different from a discussion). If that is difficult, walk away. You don't have to prove anything to anyone unless you choose to.
- If you do choose to get into an argument, try not to become offensive or abusive, even if the other person does. Set them an example of behaving with dignity and respect. If that is not possible, again, walk away.
- If you fail to stand up for your convictions, forgive yourself and try again another day.
