The Germany & USSR Non-Aggression Pact, also known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. It was signed in Moscow on August 23, 1939, by the Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov and the German foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop. It contained secret terms that divide up the independent countries of Poland, Finland & the Baltic States. Also Romania would be forced to give-up territory to the Soviet Union, and be in its 'sphere of interest'.

Some historians blame Poland for the failed attempts of France and England to reach a peace agreement with the USSR in 1939. Reportedly, Stalin's demands that there should be a Soviet armed presence within Poland to stave off German aggression was negated by Poland. This, it is inferred was Stalin's refusal to join with the West and was due to Poland's position that no Soviet troops be allowed to stand on Polish soil during peacetime.

This was no mistake by Hitler, but planned by him. As soon as he invades the British react and declare war. He miscalculated the actions of what the British would do. Within a month Poland is divided up between Germany and Russia.
