an incomplete list: broken drive belt/chain; dead battery; broken starter; lack of fuel; lack of ignition (bad coil or disconnected wiring); broken fuel pump; broken oil pump; bad ignition switch/ignition switch failure to read key
not sure why your car is not starting or why you have a transmission leak, but I cant think of any way a problem with the transmission can cause your engine not to start, you most likely have 2 different and separate problems. You might want to include more info on your engine problem such as what happens when you try to start. does it turn over?
If it won't turn at all you may have caused a problem. Check to see if you can turn the engine by hand. Does the starter click and the engine start to move? I guess I don't understand what you mean when you say it is not cranking. If you want to pursue this problem any further, contact me at: a_d_kirkwood@excite.com
The most common reason for an engine not to start is a lack of fuel. A plugged air filter can cause and engine to idle rough or not idle at all.
Will it turn over? if yes then check for spark and fuel
If the dash lights come on, but the engine won't start, check the starter. There could also be a problem with the fuel line or the spark plugs. If the engine turns over, but won't start, check all of the fuel sensors. If the motor has a clicking or buzzing sound, check the alternator.
That happened to my grandma. Her problem was that she had a twig stuck in her engine. Try checking your engine for faulties. This keeps happening to me too. My key won't turn at all sometimes so I did some research and it is a common problem check out this site. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/saturn_ignition_lock.html
The Problem was the Engine Coolant Temperture Sensor. IT was malfunctioning. It was telling the Engine it was cold Therefore sending to much fuel at startup when the engine was already warm.
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
In my experience, little as it may be,there is a possibility that the problem lies in the cables that run from the cab to the engine compartment. I would start there.
Check all connectors for moisture and dry them out.
It's burning oil, does this happen when you first start it or does it do it all the time ? if only when you first start it, you could have bad valve guide seals and then they need to be replaced, if it does it all the time the engine is running it may be time to rebuild the engine.
the symptoms you describe sound like a starter problem. replace it and your problems will be through!
