One of the possible causes of a Pontiac Bonneville to jerk during acceleration is that the car needs a tune up. The engine misfiring can lead it to jerk as you accelerate.
Stability system needs service?
My 2001 Bonneville did the same thing yesterday...it needs a new alternator.
You can't, it is an automatic system. The system is most likely leaking and needs to be repaired if the shocks are flat.
If your Pontiac runs a 700r4 gm transmission you have stripped a reverse input shell. The transmission needs to come out for repair.
One bolt on the front (right) engine mount needs to come out. There is a sleeve around this bolt that will come out after the bolt is gone, allowing you to take the belt out and replace it with a new one. Just check out the front engine mount and you will see which bolt has a sleeve around it to remove (lower front bolt if I remember correctly). Make sure to memorize/write down how the belt follows the pulleys -before- removing the belt. You don't have to do this, but it sure makes putting the new belt in much easier as you don't have to learn how the belt makes its rounds. The speed sensor may be built into the hub bearing. In that case the whole hub bearing needs to be replaced.
whole front cover needs to come off, like a small block ford,
== == The car is about 16 years old, it needs a complete rad and heater core flush, to get the junk out of it, and make the system operate better, and more effectively. A professional radiator shop can do that for you.
This is an internal transmission problem and could have several causes. Transmission needs to be replaced or rebuilt. There are a good amount of used ones on the market for reasonable prices. Get one with a parts and labor warranty.
Replacing wheel bearings, while not what I would consider a "major" job, is one that needs to be done correctly. If you really want to do it yourself, pick up a Haynes or Chilton manual at your local auto parts store.
The front seal of the tranny needs replaced, the tranny will have to come out to replace it.
