The late Bo Diddley (1928 - 2008) led a couple of amateur street bands in Chicago, IL in the 1940s & early 1950s: The Hipsters and The Langley Avenue Jive Cats. He turned pro and embarked on a solo career in March 1955, recording for Chess Records and becoming world-famous as the populariser of the Bo Diddley beat. His solo career lasted until June 2008, when he passed on, aged 79.
