Holidays in England include bank holidays, traditional holidays public holidays, and national events. Some of England's holidays are shared with the United States including New Year's Day, Valentine's Day, and Easter. Other holidays include Commonwealth Day, St. George's Day, Empire Day, and Yorkshire Day.

Christmas (25 December) is the main one. This always includes Boxing Day (26 December) and many people take at least a week off work. It can run into the New Year, where 1 January is also a Public Holiday.

Easter Monday, the day after Easter Sunday (which moves but is somewhere in March or April) and Good Friday (the Friday before Easter) are Bank Holidays, and some people take Maundy Thursday (the day before Good Friday) off work as well.

We also have Public Holidays, called Bank Holidays for the first and last Mondays in May and the last Monday in August.

All of the above is for England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have minor differences. In particular, Scotland has two days at New Year and does not have Boxing Day. Also Scotland has the first Monday in August instead of the last. For historical reasons the Scottish holidays in May are named the other way round to English usage.
