Another answer from our community:

the rapture is the taking of Gods bride (the church) here is a verse: Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

and speak with other tongues

that's the only way you will get to heaven

......................................................................................................................................

The Rapture is when all Christians disappear off the face of the earth and go to heaven. All non-christians will face seven years of tribulation before Christ comes to judge everyone.

That is what will happen. But it will be a bit more dramatic than that. An army of angels will come down. There will be a loud noise followed by trumpets being played. We will all confess that He is the only God, rather you are a believer or not. Then Jesus will descend upon us. He will take all of the Christians with Him, back to heaven where we will live with Him, for Him, and eternally. No one is aware of when this will happen. So get saved before it's too late.

Answer: Rapture comes from the Latin word "Raptura", which means "caught up". This phrase comes from the verse in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 that says "Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (Read all of 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18). The word "rapture" usually refers to the doctrine that those people who are Christians (those who have realized that they are sinners before God, and realized that there is a price for their sin, but Jesus died to pay that price for them, and have accepted God's free gift of salvation through what Jesus did on the cross for them - Romans 6:23) will one day be taken home with the Lord. They will not die or ever experience death according to The Bible, but will just be taken away one day. They will join Jesus in the air when He returns, and will receive "glorified bodies" - bodies that will never die or decay - and live forever with Him.

The rapture is when God comes back to earth and captures all Christians, but will leave all siners to suffer 7 years of hell (Tribulation). When God comes back to earth there will be a natural disaster to capture all Christians, the first time God came back to earth he captured Christians with a Flood (Noahs Ark), the next time it will be by Fire. No one will ever know when God will come back to capture Christians, the bible says ther will be signs of deprestion before God comes back to earth, but you will never know when it will be. So the best thing you can do is get saved, worship God, and live a Christian life and you are sured to be captured by God, tacken to heaven away from harm and not have to live the tribulation!!!!!!!

the rapture could happen any year, month, weak, hour, minute or even second. god will come! anybody that isn't a christian will have a 7 year chance to repent if u don't then u will face god himself! even christians have to face god so be ready brothers and sisters cause it realy could happen at any moment. it could happen right after im done tyoing this.

This is a really a big Question... So here is a second school of thought:

If your asking is the Word Rapture found in the bible?

No.

Where does the term come from?

The Origin of the term is found Philip Doddridge and John Gill in their commentaries.

So what scriptures are there used to back it up?

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 is the most conman: (NIV I dont care which translation Googled it this was the first one that came up hate NIV? Feel free to look it up in your favourite Translations) 13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord's word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the Trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.

The others used mainly talk about Christ's coming. EG:

1Thessalonians 1:10 (it says Jesus delivered us nothing else.)

Hebrews 9:28 (again it is about waiting for Jesus and not thing to rush things along)

Will The Whole Planet be destroyed?

Some People Believe that the Whole World will be destroyed, If this is the question is then According to the Word of God the Bible The Earth will never be destroyed, See:

Psalms 104:5;

(NIV) He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

(KJV) Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

(TNIV)He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.

Psalms 37:11

(TNIV)But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.

(NCV)People who are not proud will inherit the land and will enjoy complete peace.

(KJV) But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

(NWT) But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

(ASV) But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Psalms 37:29

(ERV) Good people will get the land God promised and will live on it forever.

(DARBY) The righteous shall possess the land, and dwell therein for ever.

(ASV) The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell therein for ever.

(KJV) The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

Revelation 11:18

(NCV)The people of the world were angry,

but your anger has come.

The time has come to judge the dead,

and to reward your servants the prophets

and your holy people,

all who respect you, great and small.

The time has come to destroy those who destroy the earth!"

(NKJV) The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come,

And the time of the dead, that they should be judged,

And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints,

And those who fear Your name, small and great,

And should destroy those who destroy the earth."

(NLV) The people who do not know God have become angry with You. Now it is time for You to be angry with them. It is time for the dead to stand before You and to be judged. It is time for the servants You own who are the early preachers and those who belong to You to get the reward that is coming to them. It is time for the important people and those not important who honour Your name to get the pay that is coming to them. It is time to destroy those who have made every kind of trouble on the earth."

For the Earth be destroyed would make God a liar given the promises made at Psalms 37:11,29 and 104:5 and we all know what Hebrews 6:18 says (just look it up). Would Make Revelation 11:18 Half Pointless. Why would a loving God (1John 1:8) who is full of justices Judge people harshly for something that didn't matter cause he was going to do it anyway. Secondly in Revelation it says at that time the dead will be judged... Interesting isn't it? Oh yes...

When Jesus Does start the Armageddon Will the people will there be blood up to our Sholders/necks/roof-top/what-evers as some churches teach?

No, Now have 2 bits of logic and some scriptures to apply here now scriptures first:

God promised never to flood the earth again:

Genesis 9:8-11

(TNIV)Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: 9"I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you-the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you-every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be destroyed by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."

if it were up to the necks or shoulders well who's necks/shoulders/which roof? Personally I am 6ft2 and a strong swimmer, if it were up to the necks of people who are 4ft7-5ft3 then I should be fine I could just walk/swim to building and climb on the roof and live of my secret stash of Twinkies in my roof for the next ever distilling the blood Macgyver style.

Hight is subjective would flooding the Earth inst smooth no matter if it were 9 feet high that would be from sea level it would be as affective or humane as sending angle with blood help.

Does the Bible Contain every detail of how the War of Armageddon will pan out?

No not every, It tells us the winning and looks at what will happen after in so many ways we'd need a whole web site just to cover it. As long your church is willing to refine its teaching you the bible how to use it, to reason on the basis of the teaching, are not a slave of traditions and not involved in wars (wars don't encourage love as Christian must love See: Matthew 5:43-48, Isaiah 2:4)

Remember to be Like the Berean Christians mentioned at acts 17:11 (NLT) "And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul's message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth." They Questioned Paul and Silas and checked there statements against other scriptures Your welcome to do the same. As the Bereans did we must also Search the scriptures for our answers. Remember 2 Timothy 3:16 "(KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."

(I have used a random smattering of translations please look the quoted scriptures up in your favourite translations.)

In 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, the Rapture is explained. When Jesus returns, as he promised, the dead in Christ (who believed in Him) will rise up alive from their graves, or wherever they may have fallen, and those believers that are still alive will meet them in the air. As 1 Corinthians 15:51-58 relates, the believers will be changed from corruptible and mortal bodies to incorruptible and immortal bodies. This is the first resurrection to life eternal with the Lord.

The glories of heaven await true believers, of which glory it is only known now in a limited understanding.

Answer:

The word "Rapture" isn't in the Bible. It's a product from the 19th century of someone's take on scripture that has been expanded upon over the decades... and the description of it seems to be fair game for anyone with an imagination.

The few scriptures people usually employ to give substance to their idea of what it means are usually derived from prophecies regarding the return of Jesus Christ, and the "gathering of His saints to Him in the clouds."

How the "Rapture" goes down depends upon the advocate to whom you are speaking. One common ground upon which they all seem certain is that Jesus is going to waft all of His saints into heaven in what is generally described as a "near-miss trajectory" over the earth before doing a "one-eighty" back to heaven with His payload.

They also seem to agree that their "Rapture" will happen sometime around what Jesus calls "great tribulation" [Matt.24:21]... a time of unprecedented global distress in which, if those days aren't shortened, all life on earth would cease [verse 22].

Beyond that... the "Rapture" scenarios go off in different directions.

Some say Jesus will come before the Tribulation. Some say after it. Some say during the Tribulation. Some say before, during and after... apparently with God running some kind of "shuttle service" between heaven and earth.

It all depends upon which "Rapture" proponent to whom you are speaking.

"Rapture" isn't in the Bible. The word is a creation of men... and its description and application is subject to the indulgences of men.

A rapture is thought to be when all people that have been good on earth will float up to heaven while all the people that have done bad deeds stay alone on earth for god is angry with them and has left them to perish alone.

A:

Raptures is the plural of rapture, a feeling of sheer ectasy. An example of its use in a sentence is "Mary went into raptures when she received a really good exam mark."

"Raptures of the deep" is a form of nitrogen narcosis experienced by divers who ascend too quickly.

Rapture is also an archaic word for being transported to another place. A theological extension of this is a theological invention of John Nelson Darby, the nineteenth-century founder of the Plymouth Brethren, when he suggested that Christians will be 'Raptured' bodily up to heaven at the end of time.

Catholic Answer

Rapture in Catholicism is a form of ecstasy, one that is sudden and violet. This violent motion cannot, as a rule be resisted, whereas in the case of simple ecstasy, resistance is possible, at least at the outset. (from Modern Catholic Dictionary).

St. Teresa of Avila writes about raptures extensively, which can involve the soul seeming to leave the body and fly towards heaven (cf. St. Paul's rapture, described in 2 Cor xii, 2 seq.). Sometimes, the soul's vehemence is so violent that it results in levitation. This was well known with St. Teresa, the nuns having to hold her down at times.

However, although few people belong the the Plymouth Brethren Church, many Christians believe in its founder's most enduring theological creation, the Rapture, probably because the idea actually sounds biblical.

The truly is none but there are interpretations of some which has developed this idea. It began with John Darby, the 19th century Theologian and later incorporated into The Scofield Bible.

It was the interpretation of the Greek term 'harpagesometha' which means 'caught up' translated into the Latin term 'rapere' meaning 'to seize' or abduct. The problem with the interpretation of some is If the rapture were truly a biblical doctrine, it would mesh with all other scriptural references to Christ’s coming. But it does not stand up to that test.

The 'Rapture' is a theological invention of John Nelson Darby, the nineteenth-century founder of the Plymouth Brethren. Although few people belong the the Plymouth Brethren Church, many Christians believe in its founder's most enduring theological creation, the Rapture.

Barbara R. Rossing (The Rapture Exposed) says that according to one critic, the Rapture has its origins with a young girl's vision. In 1830, in Port Glasgow, Scotland, fifteen-year-old Margaret MacDonald attended a healing service. There, she was said to have seen a vision of a two-stage return of Jesus Christ. The story of her vision was adopted and amplified by Darby. The belief that Jesus will come again was not new, and Christians have always taught that Jesus will return to earth and that believers should live in anticipation of his second coming. Darby's new teaching was that Christ would return twice, first in secret to "Rapture" his church out of the world and up to heaven, then a second time after seven years of global tribulation for non-believers, to establish a Jerusalem-based kingdom on earth (called the "Glorious Appearing" - a phrase from Titus 2:13).
John Nelson Darby has sunk into obscurity, apart from his followers in the Plymouth Brethren, and so should his theology. The Rapture has no genuine biblical support, so there is no good reason to believe there will ever be a Rapture or that the church and its members will be taken bodily up into heaven.
