Well let me start at the beginning shall I? America wasn't always its own separate country. It used to be colonies controlled by England. When everyone was first exploring, and they found the Americas, everyone went immediately to the easy money places. Spain went to the mountainous areas and got gold. Other people went to places near there or grew known cash crops. France got furs from the Indians. But England got the left overs. No one wanted the area near Ohio and towards the sea, so England took that and colonized. But they didn't know what to do with it or how to make money. The point of a colony is to make money, and since the colonies at first weren't making any money, they governed themselves. But when we started growing things and making money, England came in and:

1.) Got strict and took their rights

2.) Made them trade with England ONLY, so England got all the money and the colonists lost money ( Navigation Acts)

3.) Tried to tax them, to make them pay for the French and Indian war

4.) Passed the Quartering Act, which meant they had to house and feed soldiers in their homes

5.) Wouldn't let them have a say in Parliament (England's government)

6.) The actual solid thing that started the American Revolution: The Boston Massacre.

And there you go! these are the 6 things (not in chronological order) that helped set off the revolution.

The following events, while not the only events, may be considered major causes of the conflict that developed between Great Britain and the American colonies resulting in the Americans declaring independence from the Mother Country and the American Revolutionary War. 1. The Colonial wars for Empire, in the 1600-1700s, ending with the French and Indian War (Seven Years War) 1763. 2. The British Policy of Salutary Neglect--failure to enforce the Navigation Laws. 3. The slow but steady erosion of British control over the American Colonies. 4. Pontiac’s Rebellion and the Proclamation of 1763. 5. The Sugar Act of 1764 6. The Stamp Act of 1765 and the Stamp Act Congress in the colonies. 7. Colonial virtual representation versus actual representation in Parliament. 8. The Boston Massacre, 1770. 9. The Gaspee Affair, 1772 10. The Tea Act of 1773 and the Boston Tea Party. 11. The Intolerable (Coercive) Acts, 1774. 12. Meeting of the Continental Congress in 1774. 13. The Battles of Lexington and Concord.
