There are many laws at the federal, state, and local levels. They apply to criminal cases and civil suits brough against individuals, corporations, or public agencies.

Federal Laws include those prohibiting the violation of civil rights, the illegal possession of explosives, the misuse of prescription drugs, and the counterfeiting of US currency. Other important statutes govern interstate transportation, pollution, labor unions, and workplace safety.

An entire body of laws establishes restrictions and ethical codes on Federal officials, including those of all three branches : executive, legislative, and judicial.

Common Law Deals with nearly all aspects of human life.

Criminal Law Set up by the Code of Hammurabi; Law that defines public wrongs and provides for their punishments. i.e. Murder, rape, arson, theft

Civil Law Relates to human conduct and disputes between private parties.

Constitutional Law Based on U.S. and State constitutions. Deals with judicial interpretations of these documents.

Administrative Law The body of rules, regulations, orders, and decisions created by administrative agencies of the government.

Statutory Law Laws made by congress, the general assembly, initiatives, and referendums.

International Law A set of rules generally regarded and accepted as binding in relations between states and nations.
