What is a triple duty valve and what are its advantages and disadvantages?

Triple duty valves combine the features of a check valve, a throttling valve, and a shut-off valve, and are designed for installation on the discharge side of centrifugal pumps. The convertible body design allows the triple duty valve to be changed on-site from a straight configuration to an elbow configuration. They prevent the end user from having to purchase many different types of valves separately, this saves money in materials and uses limited floor spacing.

What are the disadvantages in using a trumpet or cornet valve guard?

Some valve guards can actually tarnish the silver/ lacquer of the instrument rather than protecting it. This happened to me on my Bach Stradivarius and now there is raw brass in one spot on the valve casing. I recommend that you wash it first, and check for blackness or other discoloration of the horn periodically.

What does the gate valve's advantages?

The gate valve has NO advantages that I can easily think of. They are slow and clumsy to operate, they are prone to corrosion and they have a bad habit of breaking the shaft. If I had my way, I would replace every gate valve with a ball valve which is easier to use, easier to see if open or shut and far more reliable.
