Gasket failure (they don't last forever). Warping of the two mating surfaces, loose bolts.
oil pump/ main bearings/ severe oil leaks/
In my 1995 Pontiac Bonneville the oil leaks out the intake manifold and drips onto the exhaust. An engine that has a gaping hole will hold no pressure.
Oil leaks will not cause an engine to heat or to seize. A lack of oil will cause it to get hot and seize which is caused by not checking the oil level and adding as necessary to keep it full. As long as the engine has the proper amount of oil it will run just fine. The leaks may cause a mess, waste of oil and money, but they will cause no damage to the engine.
I switched to full synthetic engine oil in 2001 and have no oil leaks on my 1995 Ford What makes you think you will have leaks? And if you think you will have leaks then why would you use synthetic? You will have no leaks that you would not have with conventional oil.
If there is an oil leak inside the engine compartment of the vehicle. The defroster could have some of the smell go into the cabin of the car. The engine should be checked for any oil leaks.
m
dino oil 10-30 or 5-30 is what i use synthetic causes a lot of leaks so i steer clear of it - but that is your choice
I can say from experience that Restore will stop engine oil leaks. Beyond that I have no idea. NO, they are only a temporary fix.
engine burning oil
Synthetic or Conventional is your choice. If you have no major engine oil leaks and the engine is in good condition then consider using a Quality Syntheticl If the engine leaks oil then have it fixed first. Till then I would recommend using Castrol GTX 5W-30.
An oil leak is always going to be out of the engine as the engine contains oil and the car does not. I think you are saying you are loosing oil with no apparent leak. If that is the case the engine is burning oil and that is why you see no leaks.
There are a couple possibilities: Check for "blowby", that's when exhaust gas leaks past the pistons, into the crankcase. If the engine has blowby it will be much worse when the engine is under a load. Check the vacuum lines, especially the lines from the transmission. You're looking for oil in the lines. Sometimes a broken vacuum diaphragm will allow oil to be sucked into the engine. In this case it could be that the diaphragm leaks oil only when the engine is pushing the transmission hard.
