Depends on the Palestinian. Some want the West Bank and Gaza Strip as an independent Palestinian State. The remainder want all of the former British Mandate of Palestine as a Palestinian State.

It depends on who they are demanding it from. Palestinians demand different things from the Israelis, Fatah/Palestinian Authority, Hamas, Syrians, Jordanians, Lebanese, Egyptians, UNRWA, UN General Assembly, USA, Western Europe, etc.

The Palestinians want their two bitterly divided political factions (Hamas which rules the Gaza Strip and Fatah which rules the West Bank) to unite to make a Palestinian state under its 1967 borders. They want Israel to give them back this land which consists of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, all land which was promised to them until Israel stole it and annexing (annexing = making the land part of the country) it from them.

This question is very difficult to answer as there are over 4 million Palestinians and there are a correspondingly large myriad of opinions. I will focus on the two most pertinent to the general discussion.

Most Palestinians would tell you that if you were to give them carte blanche to go back to 1948 and design it as they'd like, there would be no Israel and there would be a state of Palestine. (This assertion is a non-starter with most Jews.) By the same token, if you asked most Jews if they were to get carte blanche what they would do, they would have most (if not all) of the Palestinians shunted into the neighboring Arab countries and there would be no future Palestinian State. (This is especially true among Jews who consider Jordan to be the proper Palestinian State. This point is a non-starter with Arabs and Palestinians.)

The difference between the Arabs and the Jews with this carte blanche analysis is that while many Jews have accepted the inevitability of a Palestinian State, far fewer Palestinians have accepted the inevitability of a Jewish Israeli State. While this is the majority opinion, it is certainly not the only one in Arab circles.

Some Palestinians are willing to compromise to the 1949 borders in the same fashion that some Israelis are willing to compromise to the 1949 borders. This is a more acceptable and workable solution for the two parties and has been the basis of negotiations. Fatah has committed itself to the fulfillment of this objective, while other organizations like Hamas prefer to pursue the pie-in-the-sky and condemn their citizens in the interim to the Israeli blockade as a result of their belligerence.

Are the Israelis and the Palestinians fighting about Gaza?

It is important to note that the military/paramilitary conflict is between Israelis and Palestinians, not Jews and Palestinians since the Israeli Army contains more than just Jews. Israelis and Palestinians are still fighting because neither group has achieved their objective. The Israeli objective is to have a dominant state in the region, living in peace with its neighbors, and with borders that are secure. The Palestinian objective is to have an independent government, international relations, and freedom of movement for its inhabitants. Unfortunately, both of these objectives are greatly expanded by fanatics on both sides who see the only possible implementation of these ideals being one in which the other party cannot exist or exists in such a weakened and defeated state that there can be no real peace. This is why the conflict continues. To see the causes and desires fueling the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict in more detail, see the related question.

What are the Israelis and Palestinians fighting for?

They're not fighting over religion. Religion has nothing to do with it. They're basically fighting over land. The Jews literally came into Palestine and "threw out" the Palestinians because they needed a place to live. So now Palestinians are trying to fight back because they want their land back. The Jews had no right to take their land away from them.

Who is fighting the Palestinians?

The majority of the Palestinians are Muslims.
