The only official language of Belize is English, but Spanish is widely used and officially recognized as a regional language. In the Caribbean: Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Puerto Rico is also Spanish-speaking but is a territory of the United States. The islands of San Andres and Providencia are part of Colombia, which is Spanish-speaking, but most residents speak a creole language which is English-based but which has many Spanish loanwords. Spanish is an official language of Trinidad and Tobago but is not a majority language there. Papiamento, a Spanish-based creole language, is official in Aruba and the Netherlands Antilles, which are both Dutch territories in the Caribbean.
