The Teutons were a European-germanic race, led by Emperor Barbarrossa, who I think took over/adopted the 'Holy Roman Empire', which in the eleventh and twelfth century was expanded all over a very large amount of Europe including what today is France, Germany, Austria, etc.

The Teutons were more well known for their participance in the crusades (a religious war spanning from the 1100s to the 1400s), a war to protect the Holy city of Jerusalem from invasions from the moors/sarecens (led by the famous Saladiin).

During the crusades, the Teutons were often known as 'The Hospitalers', as I believe they set up many camps in the desert, offering their own and other army's troops water and supplies.

Teutonic knights were heavily-armoured, skilled troops, who were spurred on by religious 'Propaganda' from the pope, who had originally called for the crusades to come about.

As for Emperor Barbarrossa, he died after he and his troops had had to go on a desert crossing along dangerous roads to get to a Hospitaller camp. When he did finally get there, he and his troops were so glad to see a lake in the camp, that Barbarrossa mis-judged the depth of the lake and jumped in without bothering to take his heavy armour off, and sadly and ironically drowned.

Sorry I've made this answer into a bit of an essay, but I'm sort of used to writing essays because my history teacher makes us write so many of them!

Is Germany of Greek or Roman descent?

Neither. Germany or more properly the German people are of Teutonic descent. This Teutonic branch was native to northern Europe and encompassed the Germans, Dutch, Britons and Scandinavians, The Germans do not descend from the Teutons. In English the term Teutonic is sometimes used to indicate the Germanic peoples. This does not mean that they descend from the Teutons. The Germans belong to the Germanics. This term refers to the peoples who belong to the Germanic language group which comprises German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and Norwegian and English. The Teutons were just one of these Germanic peoples. They were original from Denmark and together in the Cimbri they attacked the Romans in the 2nd century BC. They were routed by the Romans who set the handing over of 300 women as slaves as part of the conditions of surrender. These women committed suicide. After this, there is no historical record of the Teutons. The term Teutonic was also used by Latin writers in the 10th century to indicate the kingdom of East Francia. Germanic peoples who lived in Germany in late antiquity were the: Ripuarian Franks, Alemanni, Saxons, Angles, Thuringians, Marcomanni, Quadi and Rugians. Thus, the Germans descend from quite a number of Germanic peoples.
