The normal tourist stop would be Medora, ND. It's along I-94 about 40 miles from the border with Montana. Medora is just west of Dickinson, ND. During the summer months Medora is a very busy place. They also have a musical playing nightly. Theodore Roosevelt National Park (South Unit) is near Medora. You can then travel up Hwy. 85 to see the north unit (this is the only National Park that is split up in different units.) But don't forget to travel up Hwy. 22 north of Killdeer to see the Little Missouri River. There are many campgrounds around and smaller towns with motels.
If you're into Mountain Biking, the 95-mile Maah Daah Trail runs all the way through the badlands, connecting the north and south units of the park. This is the best way to see and appreciate the Badlands.
