Basically, the more endured your muscles are the faster, and longer they can go. Do you ever wonder why the extremely muscular men aren't as toned as the other men? Because they do loads of weight, and less reps. If you want to look TONED, get your muscular indurance very high. The more reps you do with lighter weight will get you toned and make it so you can work out much longer. If you want to gain weight and get more actual muscle, high weight, low reps (as many as you can do).

For example, I change things up and do low weight high reps, and the next time possibly do high weight, low reps so I can both gain size and become more toned. If you're looking for muscular endurance, do a weight where you can do 20-40 reps fast. You'll look stronger and be able to go harder for longer. Most runners, and pretty boys will get more muscular endurance because it looks nicer and runners (or athletes that need to go longer distances) will do this. However, if you look at the offensive lineman in football, they don't have quite as good endurance (they still work at it, obviously, but they need more muscle for short sprints of hits).

Basically, get more endurance if you need to do something for a long time and look more toned.
