Strengths: An educated, relatively highly-urbanised population; a strong industrial base, mountains between it and Germany, and a high standard of living compared to its neighbours - at least in the Czech lands: Slovakia & Ruthenia were rather different.

Weaknesses: Poor relations with most neighbouring states. Five national communities, including nearly 3 million Germans all along the Czechoslovak side of those mountains: the 3m Slovaks weren't too keen on Czech dominance either, while Ruthenes were ethnically Ukrainian. And a protector in France who ultimately wouldn't offer much protection when it counted, and who preferred hostile Poland anyway.
