Delaware had enslaved people but was strong to the Union (North). Kentucky at the beginning was neutral, but after the confederacy attacked them. They then favored the North. Missouri sided with the South. Maryland went under martial law. Virginia became a seprate state which became West Virginia.
This is true of the battles in the East. The two capitols were close to each other. In the West, however, several battles, Ft. Henry, Ft. Donelson, Shiloh, Perryville, Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, Chickamauga, Atlanta, and many, many more were fought nowhere near either capital.

In England mostly. Battles and sieges were fought in all parts of the country. When the king had been thoroughly defeated in England, the parliamentarian forces went on to defeat royalist supporters in Scotland and Ireland
The USS Monitor was the first Union submarine (it was, in reality, only semi-submersible). The USS Merrimac(k) was salvaged by the Confederate Navy and plated with iron (iron clad) and commissioned as the CSS Virginia. The Monitor and the Virginia went at it in the Battle of Hampton Roads. This went down in history as the first battle between two ironclads.
Lots of stuff. Battles, generals being replaced, the whole nine yards.

The Union became overconfident during the Civil War, which led to some lost battles, but they quickly recovered and went on to win the war.
The union won about 219 battles out of hundreds of battles in the Civil War from 1861-1865.
Mathew Brady was a photographer during the Civil War. He and 20 photographers went out to document the long battle and other events that took place during those battles.
