For wood to build things. Sadly, lots of animals lose their habitats because of us, humans. We need to try to save the trees, for the safety and existence of our animals, like our cute little koalas.

More detail:

Trees are also cut down to clear land for crops and development of homes, shopping centers, etc. In addition to being used for the lumber, trees are also used in making paper - all sorts of paper. Paper for writing, copy machines, facial and toilet tissue, wrapping paper, news etc., comes from trees. And as you can see, that is a lot of paper!

Fortunately, the advent of the computer (internet and email) and its popularity has decreased the amount of paper the average consumer uses, but we do need to find more ways to reduce that amount. Because as the above answer stated, we do need to save the trees, for the safety and existence of animals, as well as the other benefits trees provide.

Trees, in addition to providing natural habitat for thousands of species of animals and insects, also help prevent soil erosion, and help our air stay cleaner. Many logging companies are now replanting trees as they cut the mature ones, which does help. But we all need to do our part by recycling, as well as being more conservative in our use of these products.
