I am not sure which black man (or "Negro") as they would have been called back then you are referring to. Paul Revere had many interactions with black people during his life. He did not own slaves, but a few wealthy residents of Boston did. The neighborhood in which Revere lived had a number of free blacks living nearby, so he would have seen both black who were slaves and blacks who were free. Further, Revere knew about Crispus Attucks, the first Negro killed in what came to be known as the Boston Massacre. He also knew about one of the other men who rode to warn the colonists of the British troops-- a mixed-race (today we would say "biracial") man named Wentworth Cheswell. Cheswell's ride took him north to New Hampshire (Paul Revere's ride took him to the western part of Massachusetts). And it should also be noted that for his time, Paul Revere was surprisingly tolerant-- one of his closest friends was Boston's only Jewish resident, Moses Michael Hays.
