The idea for Saf-T-Pops, a lollipop for toddlers with a flexible fiber loop handle, was patented April 7, 1942. Spangler Candy Company bought the brand in 1978 from Curtiss Candy Company in Chicago and began production in 1979. Spangler Candy is still making Saf-T-Pops, about 500,000 each day.
