Check to make sure the wires are all tight and you have them in the correct firing sequence. Also make sure you put the correct plugs in.
It is located on the engine block. A knock sensor will very seldom give a problem. It detects engine noises and retards to timing. If you have a code then you need to find the noise and repair it.
As there are a few causes of knocking in an engine, it is best to take it to a qualified mechanic for repair. Typical cause is a damaged internal part. Depending on the damage, it may be cheaper to replace the engine than it is to repair it.
No, it will not cause the engine to knock.
yes when it is not working properly
No it will not. The knock sensor is used to adjust the timing.

CV joints which need to be changed. (Also called the half shafts) The Knocking sound could be several things depending on type of engine , could only be pre ignition, from low octain gasoline or more serious could be rod or main bearing knock, or some of the 4 cyl. engines would knock when the cam lobes were worn. As far as the clicking when turning sounds like your CV joints on your front wheel drive are worn. This usually happens to vehicles with High milage. These repairs could be quite costly. I suspect this car has a lot of miles on it.You could get an estimit , and decide if it is worth fixing ,or just drive it. good luck Gary
