The great plague cause the renaissance to begin. Since in some places up to 50% of the population had died, all the resources were now split among the survivors. There was more resources to invest in art and culture. It took half the fields to feed people, so the extra fields were used for specialties like tomatoes, olives, and the like, resulting in new cuisine. And modern science was born from the realization that the superstitions of the day were not enough to understand our world.

-----------------------------------------------------

The Renaissance, a movement which stressed the ideas of the classical world, has been described as ending the medieval era and heralding the start of the modern age. Its causes were many, all deeply interconnected and now historians debate the relative importance of each, as well as when the Renaissance actually began. The mid fourteenth century is a common date for the start, although some commentators go back further. In addition Florence was once identified as the initial home of the Renaissance, but some histories widen this to Italy as a whole. The following are the main factors.

----------------------------------------------------------------

People started realizing that there was a contrast between the teachings and and the deeds of the churchmen. More money was being spent in in the memory of dead people. So, the movement called Humanism was launched to make the life better for the living people. The western scholars felt that so many concepts in the ancient Greek and Roman books were wrong new books with correct information and new research. In Northern Italy, nobles andmerchant's were highly rich. They were always ready to spend more money on modern homes and work of art. So, the designers, artists, architect and craftsmen were eager to produce some thing extra ordinary and were highly paid. The ancient Greek and Roman architecture was so beautiful but no preserved Europeans started to make their cities more glorious. The printing press allowed the writers to produce new books more quickly, with less expense's New books about science, politics, sports and farming were produced. Religious books against the catholic church were brought a prominent change in their beliefs.

-------------------------------------------------------

The " Renaissance" is a period of time. A cultural movement in culture; during the 14th - 17th century starting from Florence, and moved throughout Europe.
