it sounds like you should have a eletrical spark coming out of your coil ckeck there first, on the two cherrokees I have own it was the fuel system, pluged filter, weak fuel pump made starting intermitant if your 1990 Jeep is carberated try a table spoon of gas in the carb. be very carful not to spill gas all over it will burn if there is a back fire thru the carb.good luck P.S.please be very careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AnswerYour problem may exist in the ignition switch whereas the trigger may not be resting properly on its contact position. Try manipulating the switch back and forth to see if it will engage. I've had this problem several times, started to replace the switch, but worked it until the jeep cranked.

ANSWER

On mine, WE tried the ignition switch and changed the fuel filter/pump. Ended up being the fuel relay switch. (7 hours of labor at the dealer later)

New battery installed in vw new beetle now it won't start and horn honks for 1 min. what do I do?

Your alarm needs to be reset. Look in the manual for instructions. The alarm was probably arms when you changed the battery an now the alarm computer is thinking that it is being triggered by the ignition.

Battery is being drained when ignition is off?

Had the same problem, changed the positive and negative battery cable heads, this stopped the drain. Check and see if the cables are good first.

How do you reset oxygen sensor indicator light on 1990 Jeep Cherokee?

Replace the sensorOnce you have changed the oxygen sensor just disconnect the battery cable for about 30 seconds and the computer will reset. If you don't make the repair it will never go away, that's what it is made for.

What would cause a 2001 Impala not to fire after the sensors and modules were changed and could it be the computer?

a bad coil, a bad ignition pickup, bad grounds from battery etc... the library should have a shop manual for this vehicle, you can make copies of the right sections :)

My fingers slipped of the key when I tried to start it and now theres no power to the the ignition I changed the starter battery and the ignition switch and still nothing What could it be?

u might have broke something the actual ignition lock cylinder, that would be my guess from the sounds of it.

Can you reset the computer on a 2004 pacifica by unplugging the battery?

The ignition in your 1990 bronco wont engage the starter and causea the battery power to remain on already changed the lock cylinder without result?

the ignition actuator is broken, you can turn off the "battery power" by the the ignition actuator rod that leads to the ignition switch, it runs along the top of the steering column under the dash, locate it and pull it towards the steering wheel, this should shut off the power. or you can unhook you battery, but either way you will have to replace the actuator.

1995 Geo Tracker won't start No spark The battery is ok changed the ignition coil the fuses are ok but still no spark?

ECM the computer can be the problem if no start and even when truck will start but is inconsistant at starting and stalling. If the ECM has not been changed in 5 to 6 years then it is likely due. Any moisture problems on the drivers floor will likely increase the odds of it being the computer. Joe

Why does my car sputter after I changed the oxygen sensors?

The computer could have become confused. disconnect the battery from the vehicle. Leave it unhooked for several hours. Reconnect the battery. This should reset the computer, and hopefully solve the problem.

You just changed your battery and now nothing happens at all when you turn the ignition?

you either overlooked a hot lead that needs to be reconnected at the battery, or you grounded a hot wire and blew a fuse or fusible link wire

I have a 1988 Chevy Cavalier. I replaced the Alternator and Battery and also changed a linkable fuse between the alternator and battery. The test still reads no output to alternator. Any ideas?
