What causes a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo to turn over but at times not start you've changed the computer ignition switch battery and cables and also the ignition control module?

it sounds like you should have a eletrical spark coming out of your coil ckeck there first, on the two cherrokees I have own it was the fuel system, pluged filter,weak fuel pump made starting intermitant if your 1990 Jeep is carberated try a table spoon of gas in the carb. be very carful not to spill gas all over it will burn if there is a back fire thru the carb.good luck P.S.please be very careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AnswerYour problem may exist in the ignition switch whereas the trigger may not be resting properly on its contact position. Try manipulating the switch back and forth to see if it will engage. I've had this problem several times, started to replace the switch, but worked it until the jeep cranked.ANSWER
On mine, WE tried the ignition switch and changed the fuel filter/pump. Ended up being the fuel relay switch. (7 hours of labor at the dealer later)

Your alarm needs to be reset. Look in the manual for instructions. The alarm was probably arms when you changed the battery an now the alarm computer is thinking that it is being triggered by the ignition.

Had the same problem, changed the positive and negative battery cable heads, this stopped the drain. Check and see if the cables are good first.

Replace the sensorOnce you have changed the oxygen sensor just disconnect the battery cable for about 30 seconds and the computer will reset. If you don't make the repair it will never go away, that's what it is made for.

the ignition actuator is broken, you can turn off the "battery power" by the the ignition actuator rod that leads to the ignition switch, it runs along the top of the steering column under the dash, locate it and pull it towards the steering wheel, this should shut off the power. or you can unhook you battery, but either way you will have to replace the actuator.

ECM the computer can be the problem if no start and even when truck will start but is inconsistant at starting and stalling. If the ECM has not been changed in 5 to 6 years then it is likely due. Any moisture problems on the drivers floor will likely increase the odds of it being the computer. Joe

you either overlooked a hot lead that needs to be reconnected at the battery, or you grounded a hot wire and blew a fuse or fusible link wire
