What causes a 1990 Toyota 3.0L V6 4X4 pick up not to fire out of the coil after replacing the engine and ignitor?

I have just seen 2 V6 4x4 Toyota trucks have this happen. A 91 and my own 1990. I had replaced Fuel Pump, Pressure regulator, filter. Also the Coil, Igniter, and a completely NEW Distributor.
I could get the fuel system pumping by opening the Mass Air Flow (MAF) gate manually, So I had thought it was fine. But no matter what I could not get a spark from the coil. Almost replaced the computer thinking it must be bad. That would have been a mistake!!!
Turns out that the MAS had gone bad and was grounding out and through one of the wires to the computer. This the computer could not deal with and completely refused to function making it look bad even though it was not. The factory manual was of little help. Both the computer and the MAS are high dollar items, The MAS alone was around $700 dollars! This exact same thing happened in 2 trucks over 15 years old within 6 months of each other. The odds of that are slim and would tell anyone else with the same MAS as a 1990 V6 Toyota 4x4 to be suspect of it, in cases of not getting any spark from the coil.
The second truck I saw do this, I swapped my new MAS into just to test and it started rite up. I wish I had known about this, because it was hard to figure out on the first truck. I hope this experience is of some help. After 17 years with my truck, I still believe it to be the best vehicle I have ever owned and I suspect it will out live me.
