The cause could be a fuel injector stuck open. On the 4.3 262 v6 Chevrolet used the spyder injection system which is know to stick open or closed. Also you could have a bad thermostat. The thermostat could not be closing properly causing the car to over cool and keep the engine control computer in open loop thus injecting excessive fuel constantly.
