That depends if it is a load tapping sound if so, it might be your valves tapping, and you might just be about ready for a rebuild. If it sounds a lot louder and more metallic like a banging sound, your engine may have thrown a rod, and for sure needs to be rebuilt or replaced. You also might consider trying a higher grade of octane that you are using in your gas tank to see if the noise doesn't clear up on its own. sometimes engines will need a higher octane for a tank or two to clean out the gunk build up in the engine. Best of luck to you!
In our case (2003 model), we replaced the fuel pump which was located in the fuel tank. Easy changeout.
Mine and everyone I have hears makes a knocking sound at idle, I wouldn't worry about it unless it does it through the whole rpm or is really lowed
does it sound more like a knocking sound from the engine at idle?
I read that bad motor mounts can cause this knocking sound
Lifters or valves.
Could be a number of reasons...I would begin by replacing your plugs and wires if it does not misfire at idle, then that usually means you have a cracked plug, or faulty wire.
Loss of power, poor fuel economy, stalling, rough idle, engine may overheat, and you may hear a blowing sound when accelerating.
It seems as if your car is low on or out of motor oil. Having an oil change done should solve the problem.
I had the same problem when I cleaned and replaced my KN filter after 3 months of use. It was caused by too much oil on the filter element. It fowls the knocking sensor on the engine and causes the knocking noise at idle. I removed the filter and cleaned it. Then I very lightly oiled it and replaced it. The knocking went away in about a week. If it doesn't, you might have to replace the sensor. I'm not a mechanic... this is all the help I can give you. Good luck!
spark plugs and wires
There are a number of reasons why an engine would knock when you idle the vehicle. It could be your motor mounts. You may also need oil.
I've had this same problem and if it makes a rattling sound it sounds like its the catillitic converter.
