One reason is if you are using a copper ionizer this can casue a black coating anywhere on the pool. If this is not the case it could also be your pH off balance. Other than that I do not know.MP macintalkpro@yahoo.comAnswerI had black build up in the skimmer once. It was attributable to a forest fire in the mountains close by. The air had soot and ash and this settled down on the pool surface and eventually collected around the strainer. I had the black build up also. I was using an algaecide from Walmart that was greasy and foamy. When the sugarcane farmers would burn the fields, the ashes would get caught in the oil of the algaecide. Once I switched to a better algaecide, the problem is not nearly as bad. This can also be caused by traffic fall out for a time I had a hell of a lot of diesel traffic passing my front door. I have a floating pool skimmer and every time I happened to be standing next to the pool when the auto started it up at first a layer of black scum would build up in it. I thought it might have been from the traffic. I think I was proved right, when heavy traffic was diverted about a kilometer away the black scum stopped forming straight away.

In order to vacuumn the pool you must first put in the vacuum and the hose. You can siphon the air out of the hose by putting it in front of the return to dispace all air in the hose line. Then turn off the pump. Insert the end of the vacuum line either into the port at the bottom of the skimmer in the pool or remove the skimmer basket and insert it in the bottom of the skimmer. Then after the line is secure, turn on the pump motor. Your vacuum should be ready to use (manually) or run automatically if you have an automatic pool cleaner such as an Aquabug. If you have a slimline skimmer there is a port located just below the skimmer door it is used for the vac hose. After connecting the hose you put your skimmer lid down inside of skimmer and then you can turn on pump. By doing it this way you can let skimmer basket catch all large debries. This saves on having to backwash so much.
The pool skimmer is the part of the system that the water overflows into for the pump to pump it thru the filter and other accessories. There is usually a screen or mesh basket to catch large debris before it enters the pump. On above ground pools it will be found hanging on the outside of the pool near the top. In-ground pools can have the skimmer placed anywhere along the perimeter with a basket or screen accessible for cleaning.
Regardless of the position of any tiles on the pool wall The water level should be about 3 or 4 inches / 75-100mm above the top of the skimmer vein before the skimmer basket or at such a level that it does not suck air through the skimmer. of you have a suction side floating pool skimmer you can let it get as high as you like and as long as it is sealed properly as low as you like.
You could try a blower Or if that wont do the job try hitting it with a high pressure sprayer. A: explain pool cage. Does that mean the skimmer basket. Does that mean the pump basket?
