We have a 98 and it seemed that sometimes it wouldn't shift right, and the speedometer would all of a sudden stop.I would drop it down to second gear and it would stop, and straighten out. Quiestion to you: Do you have a check engine light on? If so, take it to your nearest Auto Zone, have them do test on it. 9 times out of ten it will proboly say it's the speed sensor. Try that.
The gear between the driveshaft and the transmission is broke you need a knew one
it usually is the gear in the transmission Could be the vehicle speed sensor.
does the speedometer effect the transmission
Is the TCM working normally and throwing no codes?
The transmission computer takes the output speed sensor signal and sends it to the cluster for the speedometer reading. The output speed sensor is a likely cause. The transmission computer takes the output speed sensor signal and sends it to the cluster for the speedometer reading. If the speedometer and odometer are both not working, I would blame the speed sensor. If only the speedometer does not work and the odometer does work, the cluster is bad.
Speed sensor...on the passenger side of the tranny where the axle enters the transmission.
If the spedometer is not working and the traansmision will not shift out of second it means the speed sensor is bad, unpluged or the wiring for it is damaged. The shif6ts are controled by the ECM (computer) and if does not know the speed of the car, it will not shift.
the engine does run chances are that the speedometer cable is broken or the gear in the transmission is striped
I'm not 100% certain, but I believe that model year still uses a mechanical speedometer, in which case, it's likely either your speedometer cable or faulty gears in the speedometer itself. If it is electronic - which is possible, as again I'm not 100% certain that the 95 uses a mechanical speedometer - and the rest of your gauges are working, there'll be a speed sensor on the transmission with an electrical pigtail running to it... faulty sensors or faulty wiring are the probable causes.
The speedometer needs to work in a vehicle for safety and informative reasons. The causes of it intermittently working could be the lack of electricity, or a problem with the sensor.Ê
Anything that brings the car to a complete stop? Such as the brakes or a Tree?
