Two cites in The Bible are know as the city of David. The first was a Canaanite city which David captured and renamed it City of David in his 6th year of his reign, later it was renamed Jerusalem. The second city in the Bible was Bethlehem, here Jesus was born. It was called that because King David's reign was forever (in Christ) or the everlasting kingdom which was established by Christ at David's anointing by Samuel. Source is found in Psalms.

Jerusalem is often referred to as the City of David due to its historical and spiritual significance in Judaism. King David established it as his capital around 1000 BCE, making it an important historical and religious site for Jewish people.

Why Is Bethlehem Called The City Of David?

There are two reasons why Bethlehem is called the city of David. #1. Bethlehem is called the "city of David" (Luke 2:4,11), because it was David's birthplace and early home (1Samuel 17:12). #2. David took from the Jebusites the fortress of Mount Zion. He "dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David"(1 Chronicles 11:7). This was the name afterwards given to the castle and royal palace on Mount Zion, as distinguished from Jerusalem generally (1 Kings 3:1; 8:1), It was on the southwest side of Jerusalem, opposite the temple mount, with which it was connected by a bridge over the Tyropoeon valley.
