There are many reasons why a vehicle can have an oil leak. It is always caused by some gasket becoming old, worn, or damaged. I know my wife's 1997 Odyssey had a bad oil leak after I performed an oil change. It seemed like the oil was leaking from the oil filter area. This was due to the gasket, located between the oil cooler and the engine block, becoming damaged. The oil cooler is located between the oil filter and the engine block. The part only costs about $5 from Honda and is a breeze to put on. Just remove the oil filter (after draining oil from engine) and you will find a nut that attaches the oil cooler to the engine block. Remove the nut and the oil cooler will be free. After removing the old gasket, place the new gasket in the proper position, wipe the engine block with a clean towel where the gasket will be locating, and carefully re-attach the oil cooler, nut, and oil filter. This process should only take about 20-30 minutes and can be done by anyone. There are many reasons why a vehicle can have an oil leak.
