Check or disconnect it and see if theres a connection.. Are you sure it's just the rear lights on? Why would your running lights work on a VW 1971 Beetle but no other lights?

Had the same thing happen on a '73 SB. It turned out (after much cussing) to be the ignition switch. Try replacing the switch with an OEM and "see" what happens!

Saab Dashboard lights stay on?

What year and model? Under what conditions? The dash lights are designed to stay on in certain models. Saab 900s from about 1987 on will have dash lights come on any time the ignition switch is in the ON position, whether or not the headlight switch is turned to ON.

Why the rear lights of your car are on with the car off?

The rear lights of your car will still on even if your car was off because the switch was turned on and it will still remain on until the battery's out. Another possibility, if the headlight switch is off and the ignition switch is off, the brake light switch may be out of adjustment or broken and what you're seeing is the brake lights on.

Why do your parking lights stay on when your 2002 Outback is turned off?

Between your steering wheel and your instrument panel on your steering column, you will find a small rocker switch that controls the parking lights. I can't tell you why it is there, but it does turn the parking lights off and on independent of the ignition and headlight switch.

Why wont my parking lights or my brake lights in my 95 Impreza go off even with the key out and the switches turned to off?

It could be a combination of two simple problems. First, check that your parking light switch on the top of your steering column is OFF, as this will keep the lights on even if the ignition switch is off. I believe this switch is necessary because your lights turn off automatically when you turn of the engine (ignition switch) Aslo, you must check your (combination tail light and brake light) rear bulbs as this could cause the break and tail lights to remain on when the car is started (ignition is on). GOOD LUCK !

Why does the battery and parking brake light stay on dim when the car is turned off?

It's possible that you have a bad ignition switch. Normally, those lights won't turn on unless the ignition is turned to the "Run" position. A bad switch may be allowing current to flow through one or more contacts when it's not supposed to.

Why did car lights originally stay on after the car was turned off?

Most newer models of cars now have a safety design that allows the headlights to stay on for a few minutes before shutting themselves off to allow the occupants to safely get to a door or gate. Also, on many newer model vehicles, if the lights are turned off before the ignition, the lights will stay off. If the lights are turned off after the ignition, the lights stay on to illuminate your way. If the light switch is off and the lights stay on longer than a few minutes, then something is wrong.

Why are cars designed to leave lights on when ignition off?

Let's say you park your car outside at night and not in a garage. The AUTOMATIC lights will stay on long enough to light the area up and give you time to get inside. They will then go off. Lights in a car without auto lights are designed to be turned on without the ignition being on for safety reasons. If you are driving along at night and your ignition fails you lights will still be on. Also lights draw too much amperage to be routed through the ignition switch.Let's say you park your car outside at night and not in a garage.
